Guiding Principles
- Parenting is an art, which is best learned through guided observation, interaction, study, discussion and experience.
- We believe that:
- All parents want to be good parents.
- Parenting is a life-long relationship that continues and changes over a lifetime.
- Parenting requires support from family and community.
- Each family is unique, and its culture is valued.
- Parenting influences development in both the one being cared for as well as the parent/caregiver.
- Parents will learn to understand the personal development of those in their care, as well as their own, incorporating the principles of renowned psychologist Erik Erikson's theory of Lifelong Human Development.
- Parenting requires knowledge of human growth and development.
There is a body of scientific knowledge that enhances parents' natural inclinations.
- A parent teaching other parents is central to the instructional program.
Nurturing children to reach their full potential as happy and healthy members of our society starts with good parenting and a strong family. Our purpose is to offer the education and support necessary to achieve this goal.
The combined expertise of many experienced professionals and parents, under the direction of Mrs. Bea Romer and Mrs. Carolyn Hambidge, have created a body of educational resources based on time-tested ideas as well as the very latest concepts in parent-child relationships and interpersonal psychologies.
